The American people were most upset by the policies that LBJ and Nixon decided on during Vietnam. When Lyndon Johnson was in
office the amount of troops in Vietnam gradually increased, which the American public did not agree with. The American people did
not want to see more and more young men going to war, with a large chance that they would not return. At the beginning of his term
President Johnson did not want to increase the amount of troops in Vietnam, but eventually was persuaded into it.
In 1971, when Johnson was no longer president the pentagon papers were revealed. These documents stated that the U.S was
going to invade Vietnam, during Johnson’s administration, even though Johnson had told America that he was not going to invade.
When the pentagon papers were released then American people completely lost faith in what America was doing in Vietnam and who
was running the country. Because the pentagon papers were made public during Nixon’s administration, people were not only angered
at Johnson, but Nixon also.

Richard Nixon was the other leader whose policies did not please the public. The main policy that the public was against was when Nixon
decided America was going to bomb Cambodia. This was known as a secret bombing of Cambodia because Nixon an d Henry Kissinger,
the National Security Advisor, planned this without full consent from Congress. America was also bombing a country who we were not
directly fighting against. The American public was also displeased with Nixon’s decision because he was hiding this plan to bomb Cambodia from the American people. During the Vietnam war the main issue was the president’s not being honest to their people.
If Johnson and Nixon had told the public what their real plans were maybe they could have had more support in what they were doing.
